Sunshine B. Botor of Pedro E. Diaz High School hit the nation by storm after copping the first spot in the National Photogtaphy and Essay Writing Competition in line with the 75th Araw ng Kagitingan and Philippine Veterans Week at Dambana ng Kagitingan, Mt. Samat, Bataan on April 9.

Botor, who was trained by Ms. Jeynelie Rubio, bested the numerous essay entries from all over the country with her piece entitled “Ang Tunay na Wagi”. Second in rank was Regina April G. Apalla of Balian Integrated National in Laguna with her essay entitled “Tinig ng Tagumapay”, while Francesca Angela S. Napa of Jose Panganibang National High School in Camarines Norte with her entry “Mapagpalayang Dahas” landed third.

Botor received a cash prize worth of PhP15,000.00 and trophy from His Excellency, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during the awarding ceremony held in Mt. Samar, Batan.

Hon. Mayor Jaime Fresnedi was truly delighted for another laurel which Botoc brought to the City of Muntinlupa, and so he recognized Botoc’s brilliance with a complete College Education Scholarship under Muntinlupa Scholarship Program.

With the observance of Araw ng Kagitingan in pursuant to Executive Order No. 203, s. 1987 and Presidential Proclamation No. 446, s. 1989, the Department of Education joined the nation in celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Philippine Veterans and Araw ng Kagitingan with the theme: “Ikaw-75 Taon: Parangal sa mga Beterano, Tungo sa Bayan na Nararapat sa mga Pilipino, mga Pilipino na Nararapat sa Bayan”.
